BestFreeTemplates is a tiny catalogue run by me, Olivia Grant. I keep things as simple as I can, and this page explains the few places where the site collects or holds information.
What data the site collects
Do you drop cookies on my machine?
If you browse without signing in, you get no cookies at all — zero. When you sign in, the site sets two small cookies: a session cookie so the server can remember you’re signed in while you click around, and a sign-in marker cookie that keeps you signed in on that browser until you deliberately sign out. Both are first‑party, functional bits of data. There are no advertising cookies and no third‑party trackers anywhere on the site.
What do you store when I create an account?
Creating an account saves a small handful of things:
- Your display name (whatever you choose)
- Your email address
- A hashed (scrambled) copy of your password — the site never sees the original
- Any programs you save as favourites
- Comments you write
- Notification preferences for updates to saved programs
That’s the full list. No hidden fields, no profile building.
How do notifications work?
Notifications are on‑site only. When a program you’ve saved gets an update, a small badge appears next to your account icon. I don’t send marketing email, and you won’t end up on a newsletter list because there isn’t one.
Comments
What happens when I leave a comment?
Every comment sits in a moderation queue before it appears in public. While it’s waiting, you’ll see your own comment on the page with a note that says “awaiting moderation.” Other visitors won’t see it until I’ve reviewed it.
On my moderation screen I can see four things: the comment text, your display name, the email address tied to your account, and the program page the comment was left on. I never share that email address or display it publicly beyond the display name you chose.
Can I change my mind about a comment?
Absolutely. If you want a comment edited or removed — whether it’s still waiting or already published — write to me at [email protected] and I’ll sort it out.
Account and data deletion
How do I delete my account?
Send a quick note to [email protected] from the email tied to your account. I’ll remove the account, your favourites, your notification settings, and your comments. If you’d rather keep the account but wipe just the comments, tell me that instead. Either way, I’ll write back once it’s done.
Server logs
What’s in the ordinary server logs?
Like almost every site on the internet, the server keeps a temporary log of each request. That includes an IP address, the browser type, the page requested, and a timestamp. I use these logs for two things only: keeping the site secure and chasing down technical oddities when something misbehaves. The logs roll over and don’t hang around forever.
What the site never does
- Never sells data. There’s no business model that involves your information.
- Never loads third‑party advertising trackers. The pages are clean on that front.
- Never sends marketing email. The only time I’d email you is a direct reply to a message you sent me.
Changes to this policy
Will this page ever change?
If the way the site handles information shifts — for example, if I add a new feature that touches account data — I’ll update this page and put a short note on the site for signed‑in readers so you can check what’s different. The date at the bottom will change too. For anything material, I won’t make alterations quietly.
