Minute to minute, you're making hard calls from the bridge of the Avenger. This converted alien transport ship is your mobile base, flying you between resistance havens and black-site missions. On the ground, you control a squad of five classes—Rangers, Specialists, Grenadiers, Sharpshooters, and the new Reapers, Skirmishers, and Templars from the War of the Chosen expansion. Each soldier grows through their own talent tree, so losing a veteran in an ambush stings.
Missions feel scrappy and fast. You set up overwatch traps from concealment, break alien line of sight, and grab supply crates before calling for evacuation. Between fights, you scan the geoscape for resources and build rooms on the Avenger—a Guerrilla Tactics School for squad bonuses, a Proving Ground for experimental weapons—to tip the odds in your favour.
Longtime XCOM players who want the definitive run get the most out of it. The War of the Chosen expansion layers soldier bonds, fatigue, and faction heroes onto the base campaign, so every decision echoes further. If you enjoy tinkering with loadouts and team composition, the class variety gives you months of combinations to explore.
Mod-curious players also dig in deep. The bundled tools let you tweak enemy behaviour, soldier perks, and mission rules without touching a line of code. Mac users coming from the vanilla release—perhaps after a dusty xcom 2 collection mac download—will notice the AI feels sharper, especially in ambush scenarios where ADVENT officers now flush you out with grenades instead of marching into kill zones.
A typical op unfolds like this. You spot a facility in the Australian outback that shortens the Avatar project timer. The Avenger touches down at dusk.
It bundles the base game, the War of the Chosen expansion, and four DLC packs into a single edition.
