Switch on Ironman mode and every decision sticks. No reloads, no second thoughts. Your character gets one life, and death means the story is truly over.

Apps it plays well with

Fabled Lands doesn’t need any helper apps, but a couple of macOS tools make the experience smoother. Pop open Notes on the side with Stage Manager to track your current trade routes — coffee prices in Yellowport shift often, and a quick note saves a wasted voyage. The Dictionary app is handy when old-gamebook prose throws in a word like “caravel” or “lugger” and you just want a tap-to-define moment.

If you use Shortcuts, a two-step automation that quits other apps and launches Fabled Lands in full-screen cuts out desktop noise before you settle into the Ironman tension.

Option-click cities for temple and trade summaries

A few details hide just beneath the surface. Hold Option while clicking a city on the map and you get a compact rundown of its temples and trade goods without moving your party there — great for planning a long circuit. The ship upgrade screen lets you drag crew portraits to reorder them, which affects who speaks during naval encounters. Almost nobody spots that in the first ten hours.

Temple blessings stack in subtle ways. A deity’s favour quietly raises your haggle rate at markets that share its alignment, even when the blessing text doesn’t spell it out. And if you ever pick up a cursed item, dropping it on the temple altar during a service removes the hex without costing a healing turn.

Combat has a quick-end shortcut too. When you know the fight is trivial, tapping Return twice skips the slow dice-roll animation and jumps straight to the result. Saves fingers on long dungeon crawls.
