Reeder is a Mac news reader built for people who follow lots of sites and want one calm place to catch up. It connects to your existing feed accounts and adds a few clever reading tools of its own.

What it syncs with

  • Feedbin, Feedly, Feed Wrangler, FeedHQ, NewsBlur, The Old Reader, Inoreader, BazQux Reader
  • Instapaper and Pocket for saved articles
  • An in-app Read Later service that syncs with iCloud

Reading features worth a look

The improved article viewer strips clutter and presents text cleanly. There's an image viewer for photo-heavy feeds, plus a Bionic Reading mode that highlights the first part of each word — handy if you read quickly or just want less eye strain. Reeder Classic by the same developer is a separate app, but this version keeps things current with smooth scrolling and snappy list loading.

Long-press space for image previews

Plenty of Reeder’s best bits sit just below the surface. A long press on the space bar in the articles list pops open an image preview — great for feeds where the headline alone doesn’t sell the story. You can also pinch to adjust text size in the reader view, and the app remembers your preference per feed.

Shortcuts are fully customisable, so if you’re forever marking things as read, try binding that to a single key. Gesture navigation is similarly flexible: swipe left with two fingers to close an article, or set a three-finger swipe to toggle between list and reader layouts. The automatic layout option shifts the window structure as you resize it — narrow it down and the sidebar tucks away on its own.

Quick fixes for common hiccups

A few things trip people up early on. If the in-app Read Later list doesn’t appear on your other devices, check that iCloud Drive is turned on for Reeder in System Settings — the sync relies on it, not on a separate account login.

When a feed shows old items as unread, a forced refresh usually sorts it. Pull down in the articles list until the spinner appears, then let go. If that doesn’t stick, remove and re-add the feed from the same sync service — Reeder won’t duplicate your subscriptions because it mirrors what the service already holds.

Some users grab the reeder mac download expecting the Classic interface. Remember this is the current app, with a different design and gesture set. If podcast controls stop responding after a sleep/wake cycle, the 2026.6 update patched that — quitting and relaunching clears any leftover glitch. For comics search not returning results, the same update corrected the query handling, so a quick restart should get things flowing again.

Questions I get

Yes, it has an in-app Read Later service that syncs your saved items across devices via iCloud.

No, Reeder Classic is a separate Mac app by the same developer. This version is the newer, actively updated news reader.
