What's new

The latest update squashes two persistent bugs. Villagers no longer go hungry when the pantry is full, and farmers finally clear decayed crops instead of leaving them to rot in the fields.

Starting out on Onbu

  1. Pick your relationship with the creature. You can build a symbiotic settlement or act like a parasite, prioritising human survival over Onbu's wellbeing. The choice shapes every supply chain you create.
  2. Set up production chains. Refine raw materials, research new technologies, and keep your people fed while the ground beneath you literally moves.
  3. Send out expeditions. A world blanketed in poisonous spores still holds rare resources and ancient artifacts. Scouts return with what you need to expand.
  4. Watch the creature's mood. Onbu reacts to how you treat it, and a grumpy giant makes city planning a lot harder.

Tested on macOS Sequoia with an M1 MacBook Air, performance stays smooth even as your settlement grows. The stylised art reads clearly on the built-in display, and the English voice acting gives the survivors a quiet sense of personality. Controls feel native on Mac, whether you prefer trackpad gestures or a mouse.

Onbu's real-time pace and pausing limits

Does the creature walk in real time? Onbu moves continuously, but you set the pace. Speed up when the path looks clear, or slow to a crawl while storms roll through. There's no pause that freezes the world, though you can issue orders at any speed.

How long before a settlement feels self-sustaining? About two hours gets you through the early scramble for food and basic shelter. After that the challenge shifts from survival to managing Onbu's health while expanding production lines—the game never really lets you coast.

Will the wandering village mac full version run on older Intel machines? Yes, it supports 64-bit Intel Macs and Apple Silicon. On an M1 Air the fans stay quiet through long sessions, and load times clock in under fifteen seconds even with a mature village.

Memory use and frame pacing under weather

Memory sits around 1.2 GB during normal play, climbing toward 1.6 GB when weather effects layer over a full village. The frame pacing holds steady—no stutter when Onbu dips into a new biome or when a dozen production buildings tick simultaneously. Crashes are rare on 1.1.6; the only hiccup we noticed was a brief hitch when loading an expedition result screen, and that cleared in a fraction of a second.

Battery drain is modest for a simulation game. On an M1 MacBook Air you get roughly three hours of play unplugged with the display at half brightness. The app handles sleep and wake cleanly—open the lid and you're right back where Onbu last stood, no reload required.

Good to know: if you stack too many buildings near Onbu's neck, pathfinding for villagers gets weird. Spread structures along the creature's back to keep routes short and your people fed on time.

Questions I get

Yes, it runs on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs and was tested smoothly on an M1 MacBook Air with macOS Sequoia.

The interface is available in 14 languages including English, German, Japanese, and Arabic, with English voice acting.

It launched on Steam Early Access for Mac, PC, and Linux on September 14, 2022.
