Three play loops stack on top of each other inside one ARM-native build. Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault sends Will into procedurally arranged vaults by night, then hands him a pricing gun by day. The village of Tresna grows around whatever you haul back.

Short dungeon runs feeding your shop

  • Short dungeon runs that feed a shopkeeping sim
  • Apple Silicon Macs — the build is ARM from the start
  • Players who liked the original's loop but wanted more village interaction
  • Early access supporters comfortable with a work-in-progress economy

ARM-only, balance still in flux

  • Version 0.17.8.0 means systems are still shifting
  • Requires macOS Tahoe — no Intel support
  • Relic pricing and combat balance will change across updates

Bypass the macOS Tahoe security block

First launch can throw a security warning on macOS Tahoe. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway — the button appears after the warning dismisses. If the app quits with an error instead, mount the disk image again and run the Fix file. That sorts most early-access hiccups.

The Wineskin wrapper sometimes stutters after waking the Mac from sleep. A quick app restart clears it. Frame pacing feels smoother if you cap the in-game display to 60 Hz — the default uncapped mode occasionally tears on M4 displays during heavy vault combat.

Some interface text defaults to Russian on first boot. The language toggle sits under Settings > Game, not the main menu. Switch it once and the game remembers.

If a download stalls partway through, Free Download Manager or Motrix with a Chromium-based browser picks up the resume without fuss. Torrent users just point qBittorrent at the file and let it finish.

A run through Tresna, step by step

You start in the village square, just before dusk. The blacksmith nags about a missing toolkit. You check the quest board, grab a relic-hunting contract, and walk Will toward the vault entrance — a yawning stone door that hums faintly.

Inside, room generation throws three connected chambers: slimes in the first, a shielded construct in the second, a glowing chest behind the third. You dodge-roll past the shield bash, land two charged swings, and scoop a cracked chalice and an ornate gauntlet into your pack. Health dips to half; you use the escape rope to portal out rather than risk the deeper floor.

Daylight hits. You drag both relics onto shop shelves and set prices: 380 on the chalice, 520 on the gauntlet. A merchant NPC frowns at the gauntlet — too steep — so you knock it down to 460 mid-sale. The till rings. Coins go straight into upgrading the apothecary, which unlocks a health-over-time potion for tomorrow's dive.

The loop closes in about twenty minutes. By week's end, the village has a new armour stand and Will's sword glows faintly with vault magic.

What the early-access build changes

Version 0.17.8.0 lands as the initial early-access release, so everything from the original Moonlighter has been rebuilt around Tresna's expanded village layer. The core difference in daily play is scope: investing gold now feeds into multiple businesses rather than one shop upgrade tree. You feel the village breathing between runs.

Vault generation favours shorter, denser floors than the first game. Relic variety is already wider in this build, with cursed items appearing earlier — meaning pricing blunders sting sooner. Combat pacing is faster, helped by a dodge roll with tighter recovery frames.

The ARM-native wrapper makes a practical difference. Loading into the vault from the village square takes under three seconds on M4 hardware, and the app stays responsive during shop menu fiddling. No Rosetta layer, no translation lag.

Expect balance passes on relic rarity and shop haggling logic. The developer has flagged the economy as the main system under active tuning, so pricing sweet spots will shift with each update. For now, the early-access build gives a generous slice of what the full loop aims for — just rougher around the edges.

Questions I get

No. The game is built for Apple Silicon only and requires macOS Tahoe or later.

Relics are collected during dungeon runs and can be sold in your shop or reinvested into village businesses for better weapons, armour and bonuses.

Moonlighter 2 is in early access, so core systems like the economy and combat tuning are still being updated.
