NMC sync is the quiet powerhouse here — it locks multiple Macs running Mitti to the same timeline over a local network, no external timecode gear needed. Once you route a Blackmagic camera through Syphon and set your in/out points, the interface stays out of your way so you can focus on the show, not the software.

How does multi-machine sync actually work?

The internal NMC protocol sends master transport commands to all linked instances. A backup machine can sit in cue-to-cue mode, ready to take over if the primary drops — all frame-accurate and handled over standard ethernet.

Can it mix live cameras with pre-rendered content?

Yes. Mitti treats a live camera, a still image, and a video file as the same cue type. You can sequence a Blackmagic feed, add NDI sources from another room, and drop in rendered clips — all with independent audio channel routing per cue.

How do I move a show to another Mac?

Export the playlist with all media collected into a single folder. Copy it to the second machine, open the playlist, and every cue relinks automatically. It keeps the same in/out trims and channel assignments without rebuilding anything.

Fix the blank Blackmagic preview window

A few things trip up new users when they grab a mitti mac download and load a show for the first time. The most frequent is a blank preview window when a Blackmagic source is selected. Usually the camera hasn't been assigned in the device preferences yet — open Video Input, pick your DeckLink or UltraStudio, and the feed pops right in.

Another hiccup involves audio routing. If a cue plays but the sound comes out the wrong channel, check the cue's routing matrix. Mitti maps stereo pairs per cue, not globally, so one film might send to outputs 1–2 while the next needs 3–4. Set it once and it sticks with the cue file.

Legacy codecs can also stall a rehearsal. A folder full of old AVI or WMV files won't play until you enable automatic transcoding in preferences. Mitti converts them to ProRes or H.264 in the background and swaps the cues; the originals stay untouched. Give it a few minutes before doors open.

CPU load from idle to four 4K layers

On an Apple Silicon Mac, Mitti idles at around 2–3% CPU with a paused playlist and a single Syphon source in standby. Push four 4K ProRes cues with ISF effects layered on top and it climbs to roughly 12–15%, staying well inside the thermal headroom even on a MacBook Air. Memory use hovers near 300 MB for a modest project, nudging toward 600 MB when you load a playlist with fifty-plus high-bitrate clips.

Playback doesn't stutter during network sync bursts either. I've watched a primary machine fire transport commands to two backups while all three ran the same timeline — zero dropped frames over a two-hour run. The app rarely beachballs, and when it does, it's usually a slow external drive waking from sleep rather than Mitti itself. For a Mitti torrent build that lands on an event laptop an hour before curtain, that kind of predictability is exactly what you want.
