nudist torrent running on macOS

You drop a clean synth loop into the channel, open Nudistort, and by the time you've nudged two controls it's spitting out something raw and metallic — the kind of texture that sits up in a dense mix. This is a plugin built for radical timbre shifts, not gentle saturation.

  • Drives signals into expressive harsh territory with a focused control set
  • Twists harmonic content until the source becomes a new, aggressive element
  • Suits extreme sound design tasks where polite distortion won't cut it
  • Works across Apple Silicon and Intel Macs from macOS 10.13 onward
  • Delivers fast, character-heavy results without menu diving

Every knob pulls the audio further from its original character, so it's at home on industrial percussion, snarling basslines and chaotic transition effects. If you need something that sounds like it's breaking apart in a controlled way, Nudistort makes that accessible.

Driving input too hot mutes the session

First time out, most people drive the input too hard and wonder why their session mutes. Nudistort doesn't soften the blow — it piles on harmonics fast. Backing off the input gain a touch often reveals more usable grit than slamming it at full tilt.

A few other things that trip people up:

  • Plugin doesn't show up in the DAW. You've installed the AU but your DAW only scans VST3. Check the format you placed in your components or VST3 folder, and confirm it's the 64-bit build.
  • Latency spikes on older Intel Macs. The algorithm is hungry. Bump your buffer size to 512 or 1024 samples while tweaking, then drop it back down for tracking.
  • Stereo image collapses. Nudistort processes left and right independently on some modes. If your field narrows, try dialling the mix knob back slightly and blending with the dry signal.
  • No output at all. The wet/dry knob at zero sends only the clean signal, but if the internal trim is buried, you might hear silence. Start with mix at 50% and the drive halfway, then adjust.

On Apple Silicon systems the plugin loads natively, no Rosetta needed. If you're still not seeing it, a quick DAW rescan usually sorts it. Some hosts cache their plugin list aggressively — a full restart of the DAW often shakes it loose.

a session with nudistort

You drag Nudistort onto a drum bus. The overheads are too tidy, all crisp transients and polite room tone. You want them to sound like they were printed to a cassette left in a hot car.

First move — push the drive knob to about 40%. The cymbals start to sizzle and fold in on themselves. You pull the tone control back a notch so it doesn't shred your ears, then slowly bring up the mix until the dry signal feels like a distant memory.

Now the kick drum is punching through with a hard, clipped edge. The snare has a crack that wasn't there before — it's almost woody. You automate the drive parameter to push the last two bars of the fill into full breakup. It squeals and spits, then snaps back to the verse setting.

By the end of the pass, the drum bus sits exactly where you wanted — louder in the midrange, meaner in the top end. You bounce it and tuck the result under the main mix at about 30%. It's a texture layer now, not a drum track.

making a gritty transition sweep

Workflow for a transition effect in a dark electronic track:

  1. Open a new aux track and insert a noise generator — white or pink, doesn't matter — then place Nudistort after it.
  2. Set the plugin's drive to around 30% and pull the tone control to a low-mid emphasis. You want rumble, not hiss.
  3. Add a band-pass filter after Nudistort. Begin with the frequency down around 200 Hz and a tight Q.
  4. Print eight bars of the aux output to an audio track. You'll get a churning, unstable drone.
  5. Slice the audio into eighth-note chunks, remove every other one, and apply small fades to each edge so they click.
  6. Run the chopped version back through Nudistort on a second pass, this time with drive at 60% and the mix at full wet. The gaps between slices fill with distorted feedback tails.
  7. Automate the band-pass filter to sweep up to 4 kHz over four bars. The texture opens from a low growl into a screeching, metallic wash.

The result is a transition that sounds like something rupturing — perfect for dropping into the last bar before a chorus. What started as clean noise is now a signature moment in the arrangement. Nudistort's strength is exactly that: it gives you a palette of broken, expressive textures that feel like they're fighting back.

Questions I get

It's designed for harsh, radical timbre changes rather than subtle warmth, suiting aggressive sound design and expressive distorted textures.

Yes, it supports both Apple Silicon and Intel 64-bit systems and requires macOS 10.13 or later.

Version 1.2.5 is the current release available from the developer, Nudist Audio.
