FabFilter Total Bundle runs on any Mac with macOS 10.13 or newer, on both Apple Silicon and Intel 64-bit machines. The interface is English throughout.

Start with these three

  • Pro-Q — The equaliser. Drag points on the display and hear the change instantly. It’s the cleanest introduction to how FabFilter visualises sound.
  • Pro-R — The reverb. Pick a preset, then tweak the Decay Rate EQ curve. You’ll understand the musical approach straight away.
  • Timeless — The delay. Tap in a tempo, drag the delay time dot, and play with the filters. It’s immediate and inspiring.

What else is in the box

The bundle includes the full mastering chain — Pro-C compressor, Pro-L limiter and Pro-MB multiband — alongside creative tools like Saturn for saturation, Twin for synthesis and Volcano for filter effects. There’s a lot to explore, but the first three plug-ins above give you the feel of the whole package without overwhelm.

Analyser lag fix for older Macs

Even smooth software has its sticky moments. Here are a few things that trip people up with the Total Bundle and how to get past them quickly.

  • Pro-Q analyser lag on older Macs. If the real-time spectrum display feels sluggish, switch the analyser resolution to Medium or Low in the bottom bar. It lightens the graphics load without hurting the sound.
  • Pro-R late reflections sound muddy. When the tail lacks clarity, drop the Bass EQ knob on the Decay Rate curve a touch and shorten the Pre-Delay by 5–10 ms. It cleans up the space while keeping the width.
  • Pro-L not catching true peaks fast enough. Make sure the True Peak Limiting button is lit, then nudge the Lookahead up to 1 ms. Those intersample peaks disappear without added latency you’d notice.
  • Sidechaining in Pro-C feels hidden. Click the Expert button, switch to the Sidechain panel, and enable external input. The default view keeps it out of sight, but it’s always there, ready to duck a bassline under a kick.
  • Saturn modulation routings go quiet. Check the dry/wet mix per band. Saturn’s modulation is per-band, not global, so a single muted band can kill the whole preset if it’s set to 100% wet.

Spectrum grab and attack smoothing in the latest update

Version 25.06.2026 bundles Pro-Q 4.13, Pro-R 2.06 and Pro-C 3.02. The updates are more than incremental — they shift how you interact with the plug-ins day to day.

Pro-Q 4.13 brings a refined spectrum grab that lets you drag any peak you see on the analyser. No more hunting for the right band first — just grab the frequency you hear poking out. The EQ match feature also got smarter at averaging reference tracks, so matching a mix curve now takes two clicks instead of fussing with capture length.

Pro-R 2.06 introduces a reverb ducking control that responds to the dry signal automatically. In a busy mix, the tail pulls back while a vocal runs, then blooms in the gaps. It’s one knob, and it replaces a whole sidechain routing you used to have to set up manually.

Pro-C 3.02 adds a knee display that overlays the compression curve in real time. You can see the transition from uncompressed to compressed and adjust the knee width by dragging it on screen. For mastering, the new upward compression mode in the Expert panel lets you lift quiet details without squashing peaks — a subtle but powerful option for acoustic recordings.

A real-world scenario: mixing a podcast episode

Imagine a podcast editor staring at a raw interview. The guest’s voice has a low hum, some sharp sibilants, and a room tone that shifts halfway through. The host’s track is cleaner but sits too far forward.

They drop Pro-Q first. A quick frequency grab on the hum shows it’s at 120 Hz. Two clicks — one to create a bell cut, one to narrow the Q — and the rumble is gone. The analyser overlay confirms the fix without needing to solo the band.

Pro-DS goes on the guest next. The Wide Band mode catches the worst esses, but the editor switches to Split Band for the softer sections so only the sibilant range gets tamed. The Waveform view inside Pro-DS shows exactly where the gain reduction hits, frame by frame.

For the room tone shift, they loop a short section of clean background noise and capture it in Pro-Q’s EQ match. Applied gently at 30% mix, it smooths the tonal difference without sounding processed. Pro-C finishes the chain with a gentle 2:1 ratio in Vocal mode, catching the guest’s louder laughs but leaving the quiet asides untouched.

The host gets Pro-MB on the low-mids to push them back slightly, plus a touch of Pro-R on a tight studio preset to glue both voices into the same acoustic. Total time: maybe fifteen minutes, with no third-party metering needed — the built-in displays show peak level, loudness and dynamic range at a glance.

Workflow and visual preference against iZotope and others

The bundle sits next to a few heavy-hitters in the plug-in world. Each has a different feel, and the choice usually comes down to workflow and visual preference.

iZotope Ozone suite. Ozone leans heavily on assistive processing — it listens to your track and suggests an EQ curve, a loudness target, a stereo width setting. That’s helpful for fast turnaround, but the FabFilter Total Bundle gives you more direct control. Pro-Q’s display, for example, lets you shape the curve by hand with instant visual feedback, whereas Ozone’s EQ module often pushes you toward its suggested fixes first. Ozone’s plug-ins also tend to be heavier on CPU when you stack them.

Waves Horizon bundle. Waves offers sheer volume — dozens of plug-ins covering vintage emulations, channel strips and creative effects. The trade-off is interface consistency. Every FabFilter plug-in shares the same interaction model: drag, zoom, right-click for value entry. In Waves, you’re learning a new layout per plug-in, and the graphics scale poorly on high-resolution Mac displays unless you use the newer V14+ versions.

Soundtoys Effect Rack. Soundtoys excels at character — EchoBoy, Decapitator and Little AlterBoy bring a warm, analogue-inspired tone that FabFilter’s cleaner tools don’t aim for. But Soundtoys is a creative effects suite, not a mixing and mastering toolkit. You still need a separate EQ, compressor and limiter. The FabFilter bundle spans both worlds: Saturn and Volcano for character, Pro-Q and Pro-L for precision, all in one package.

Double-click any knob to type an exact value

FabFilter plug-ins hide a lot of quality-of-life touches behind simple gestures. Once they’re muscle memory, you move a lot faster.

  • Double-click any knob to type a value. No tiny fader drags — just double-click and enter the exact frequency, ratio or milliseconds you want.
  • Pin the output meter. In Pro-L and Pro-C, click the small pin icon on the meter panel. It stays visible when you switch to another plug-in window, so you always see the gain reduction or loudness level.
  • Undo and redo history. Every FabFilter plug-in has a full undo stack — standard Cmd-Z and Cmd-Shift-Z work, and you can step back through dozens of changes per session.
  • A/B comparison with a single click. The A/B button in the top bar holds two complete states of the plug-in. Click it to jump between them; it’s faster than saving and loading presets for quick shootouts.
  • Output routing in Twin. Twin’s four oscillators each have their own output destination — use them to route separate layers to different effects slots inside the synth, then blend with the mixer panel, all from one instance.
  • MIDI learn on any control. Right-click a knob or slider, choose Enable MIDI Learn, move a controller — done. It works across the whole bundle, including Saturn’s modulation matrix and Pro-R’s decay curve points.
